Industry verticals we are exploring with EigenTrust

Web3 Social

Web3 Social protocols and products will need to leverage reputation systems for sybil resistance as well as giving a compelling user experience through personalized recommendation systems.

Web3 social graph protocols are creating on-chain/off-chain data (Likes, Follows, Followers, Comments, NFTs owned) which can be utilized for creating trust and recommendation engines by individual third-part clients and front-ends. This data is already indexed and openly available. EigenTrust can be implemented by using data from the social graph APIs and executing the Trust computation and persistently recording reputation scores on a user’s data stream.

NFT Marketplaces

Marketplaces face a huge pain point with fraud and rug pulls - there is no easy way to attest or aggregate the reputation of a creator, artist or an NFT collection. For users, these marketplaces are the de facto NFT search engines for users. Users have high friction in search and discovery, having to depend on several on-chain and off-chain data sources before transacting.

On-chain reputation can help aggregate various heuristics to ascertain the reputation of an artist or collection (volume, # wallets, social graph data based on holders).

Community points and DAO reputation

Web3 communities are using NFTs/VCs to signal contributions, credentialing, proof of membership, skills, etc. This is a true p2p system of driving attestations and reputation in communities. But there is a lack of compute system which helps create on-chain reputation based on all of this source data.

Grants and Skills Marketplace

Aggregating users reputation/ratings from different contexts to provide a skills/contributor score. Marketplaces and aggregators which enable Grant programs, talent sourcing for projects and DAOs all have a high cost for search and discovery for projects.

Wallets and Consumer aggregators

There are limitations in the user-experience of consumer facing wallets and aggregators in the backdrop of user sovereignty and open on-chain data. An on-chain reputation and ranking system can power better user experiences for search and discovery of wallets, tokens, content and communities.
